A client in the UAE required high-quality galvanized steel strip for the production of flexible steel pipes. Due to the specific manufacturing process, the client had strict requirements regarding the strip’s thickness, width, galvanized coating thickness, coil weight, and packaging dimensions.
Based on the customer’s technical requirements, Wanzhi Steel provided a customized galvanized steel strip solution characterized by consistent quality, precise dimensions, and proper coil weight control, capable of meeting the customer’s production needs.
Customer Requirements
In the manufacture of flexible steel pipes, the quality of galvanized steel strip directly affects the forming process, weldability, and the reliability of the final product.
The customer is primarily concerned with the following key factors:
- The required steel strip dimensions are: 0.22 mm (thickness) × 13 mm (width).
- Customer requirement: G20 galvanized coating (100 g/m²).
- Customer Requirements: Small coils weighing 20–25 kg for easy handling; large coils weighing approximately 1.8 metric tons, with a maximum coil weight not exceeding 2 metric tons.
Analysis of Customer Requirements
Dimensional Accuracy
Compared to traditional galvanized steel coils, narrow-width steel strips require higher precision during slitting and processing. Any deviation in width or thickness may affect: steel pipe forming accuracy, production efficiency, and material consumption.
Appropriate Corrosion-Resistant Galvanized Coating
The galvanized coating provides corrosion protection throughout the service life of flexible steel pipes, helping to enhance their durability in industrial applications. A 100 g/m² galvanized coating offers moderate corrosion resistance.
Customized Coil Weight Requirements
Unlike standard galvanized steel coils, the production of flexible steel pipes requires smaller, more controllable coil weights. Therefore, coil weight control and packaging design are critical components of the production plan.

Based on the customer’s requirements, WanZhi Steel provided customized galvanized steel strips and optimized the production and packaging solutions.
- Custom Production of Narrow-Width Galvanized Steel Strips: Raw materials are processed according to customer-specified dimensions (thickness 0.22 mm, width 13 mm). Using precision slitting technology, galvanized steel coils are processed into narrow-width steel strips suitable for the manufacture of flexible steel pipes.
- DX51D is selected as the base material: DX51D offers excellent formability (suitable for bending operations) and stable mechanical properties.
- Zinc-free surface treatment: We produce zinc-free galvanized steel strips according to customer requirements.
- Flexible Coil Dimensions and Packaging: To meet customers’ production needs, we offer coils in various sizes, with dimensions controlled to an inner diameter (ID) of 250 mm and an outer diameter (OD) of 600 mm.
Quality Inspection
Prior to shipment, galvanized steel strips are inspected in accordance with customer requirements. Inspection items include:
- Dimensional Inspection: Thickness measurement, width measurement, and verification of coil dimensions.
- Surface Inspection: Appearance of the galvanized coating, surface uniformity, and condition of the zinc bloom.
- Packaging Inspection: Verification of coil weight, inspection of coil diameter, and inspection of packaging condition.
These inspections ensure that the products meet customer requirements before delivery.
