Client Background
The client is a procurement and trading company based in Georgia, seeking a long-term, stable supplier of pre-painted galvanized steel coils (PPGI) for local downstream end customers. The initial email was very straightforward—specifications, colors, and coil weights were clearly listed, along with ten questions and a list of required documents. It was evident that they had done their homework and weren’t just casually requesting quotes for comparison.
Georgia’s local steel production capacity is limited, so color-coated coils for building materials rely primarily on imports. The client has access to a steady stream of end-user projects, so they made it clear from the outset that they were looking for a “reliable, long-term supplier” and stated explicitly that they would evaluate several suppliers simultaneously before making a final decision.

Quotation Discussions and Requirement Adjustments
We responded item by item to the customer’s list of questions. Since we frequently produce pre-painted galvanized steel coils using DX51D+Z as the substrate, we directly informed the customer that DX51D was available for production.
We are capable of producing all four paint coating systems; after the customer carefully reviewed the weather resistance lifespans and price differences for each system, they ultimately selected HDP. After several rounds of email correspondence, we made a few practical adjustments to the specifications:
- Specification of paint film thickness: We clarified the initial vague requirement of “topcoat 25 μm” to 25/5 (topcoat 25 μm, backcoat 5 μm), to which the client raised no objections.
- Reduction in single-coil weight: We adjusted the weight from the client’s initial request of approximately 6 metric tons per coil to approximately 4 metric tons per coil. The client’s end-user project has limited uncoiling equipment and loading/unloading capacity; rolls that are too heavy are difficult to unload from trucks and feed into the machinery, so we agreed to split the rolls.
- Strict control of total quantity: The client strictly capped the total at 48 metric tons—24 metric tons each for the two colors, totaling 12 rolls—and explicitly stated, “Please try not to exceed this amount.” They had calculated their project consumption precisely, and any excess inventory would be a burden.
- Change in trade terms: The customer initially requested a CIF quote but ultimately chose FOB Qingdao/Tianjin. They have their own freight forwarder, and the ocean freight rates via the Port of Poti are cheaper than what we could arrange—which is not uncommon on the Black Sea route.
